This detail of the roof of the Mieidō at Tō-ji, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan, shows the hiwada-buki 桧皮葺 construction. The material of the roof is the bark of a tree such as en:Chamaecyparis obtusa (Japanese cypress) or en:sugi.
