English: Diagram of a mechanical mouse.
  1. Pulling the mouse turns the ball.
  2. X and Y rollers grip the ball and transfer movement.
  3. Optical encoding disks include light holes.
  4. Infrared LEDs shine through the disks.
  5. Sensors gather light pulses to convert to X and Y velocities.

  1. Al mover el ratón, rota la bola.
  2. Los rodillos adosados a la bola, transforman el movimiento en sus componentes X e Y.
  3. La velocidad y dirección del movimiento, es codificada por la rueda perforada.
  4. El LED de infrarrojos, luce a través de las perforaciones de la ruedas perforada.
  5. Un sensor de infrarrojos recive los destellos infrarrojos, y el ordenador los traduce en sentido y velocidad.
Deutsch: Funktionsprinzip einer optomechanischen Maus:
  1. Beim Bewegen der Maus rollt die Kugel.
  2. X- und Y-Achsen übernehmen den jeweiligen Anteil der Bewegung.
  3. Über eine Welle werden die entsprechenden Lochscheiben gedreht.
  4. Infrarot-LEDs leuchten durch die Löcher.
