Rostock, overseas port, sea canal, Warnow shipyard central picture Sindermann (kat) September 17, 1968 Rostock: This view of the sea canal to the overseas port and the Warnow shipyard is from the 26 meter high new pilot station in Warnemünde. The station's new technical equipment includes, among other things: a harbor radar system that is equipped with an antenna eight meters in diameter and thus achieves a considerable range. Due to the sharp increase in cargo turnover, the old pilot station was no longer sufficient to safely escort incoming and outgoing ships to the port and back to the roadstead. 
For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Factual corrections and alternative descriptions are encouraged separately from the original description. Additionally errors can be reported at this page to inform the Bundesarchiv. Original historic description: Rostock, Überseehafen, Seekanal, Warnow-Werft Zentralbild Sindermann (kat) 17.9.1968 Rostock: Dieser Blick auf den Seekanal zum Überseehafen und zur Warnow-Werft bietet sich von der 26 Meter hohen neuen Lotsenstation in Warnemünde, deren Stahlskelettkonstruktion auf dem linken Bildteil zu sehen ist. Zur neuen technischen Ausrüstung der Station gehört u. a. eine Hafen-Radaranlage, die mit einer Antenne von acht Metern Durchmesser ausgestattet ist und somit eine beachtliche Reichweite erzielt. Die alte Lotsenstation genügte durch den stark angestiegenen Güterumschlag nicht mehr, um die eine- und auslaufenden Schiffe sicher zum Hafen und zurück zur Reede zu geleiten.
