Wisdom, the oldest known bird in the wild, has a new chick in 2016! Kūkuni (Hawaiian for "messenger") hatched under the watchful eyes of Wisdom's mate, pictured here. Laysan albatrosses travel thousands of miles each year, returning to Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument each year to lay their eggs. Facing threats on their journeys like marine debris, habitat degradation and invasive species, these amazing persevering birds are indicators of the health of our ocean.
