Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Rodolfo Zepeda, a recruiter with Navy Recruiting Station-Brownsville, judges a head-to-head challenge in support of Robotics Day held during the 2014 Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week (HESTEC) on the campus of the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA), Oct. 9. Standing next to Zepeda is Cmdr. Karen Muntean, executive officer, Navy Recruiting District San Antonio and Lt. Joel Pena, a diversity officer with Navy Recruiting Command’s Diversity Office. More than 60 middle and high school teams competed in the annual competition. HESTEC Week is an educational conference that features events geared towards promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education to people of all ages and backgrounds.
