Notes
  • Significance: The New Block boardinghouses were erected during the Town of Lowell's venture in the nation's first mass-production industrial enterprise. The structures are an offshoot of the earlier boardinghouses, and they generally houses mill workers of the nearby mills. They are a typical example of New England mill housing, and similar examples are found in Manchester, New Hampshire and many other northern New England mill towns. See also the short form for Brick Block, Lowell, Massachusetts, HABS No. MA-1151.
  • Unprocessed Field note material exists for this structure: FN-333
  • Survey number: HABS MA-1153
