LE SPAHI ORANAIS, dont le visage basané et barbu est éclairé par le sourire des yeux et la blancheur des dents, présente fièrement à la revue du vétérinaire son cheval bien pansé, bichonné, au front orné de floches et à la crinière artistement tressée. A côté de sa blanche monture, il a belle allure, ce sombre cavalier de la plus grande France, qui a gardé sa gandoura, son chèche et ses cartouchières en bandoulière dans son secteur de repos, en arrière des lignes, quelque part dans l'Est de notre pays.
