English: Seaplane Savoia Marchetti on the Brisbane River, August 1925
Italy-Australia flight. Major Francesco De Pinedo (pilot) and Ernesto Campanelli (motor mechanic) arrived in Brisbane on 6 August 1925. Photograph taken in Brisbane River, near the Naval Stores at Kangaroo Point. The plane left Brindisi, Italy, on 27 April 1925 and arrived at Broome, Western Australia, 31 May 1925 and Melbourne on 9 June 1925. The plane was overhauled at this point. They arrived in Brisbane on 6 August 1925 and left on their flight north on 9 August 1925. (Description supplied with photograph). A number of men in a small tender and rowboat have travelled out to inspect the aeroplane and meet its pilot. |
