English: Early view of Eagle Street, Brisbane, ca. 1895.
Postcard illustration of a busy intersection shows horsedrawn vehicles and people milling in the street. A stone drinking fountain erected in 1880, popularly known as the Mooney Memorial Fountain, stands on the triangular space at the junction of the two streets. The Mutual Assurance Society of Victoria building, erected in 1882, stands to the right of the fountain. A worker is carrying two loaded baskets on a stick across his shoulders in the left foreground. |
