English: Protrusion branching and vacuole failure, ΔmxiG/pmxiG (Ara withdrawal). Time-lapse confocal microscopy of S. flexneri ΔmxiG/pmxiG (Ara withdrawal) cell-to-cell spread showing bacterial division and branching of the protrusion followed by vacuole escape failure and continued bacterial division within the double membrane vacuole in an adjacent cell. Yellow, plasma membrane; blue, S. flexneri ΔmxiG/pmxiG (Ara withdrawal). Time points are separated by 5 minutes.
