Iron Steam Ship Nemesis, ... with boats of Sulphur, Calliope, Larne and Starling, destroying the Chinese War Junks, in Anson's Bay, Jany 7th 1841 (Chuenpee near Canton) This image shows one of the actions in the First Opium War. On 7 January 1841, the British iron steam ship Nemesis, commanded by Lieutenant W.H. Hall, R. N. with boats from the ‘Sulphur’, ‘Calliope’, ‘Larne’ and ‘Starling’, destroying the Chinese War Junks in Anson's Bay, Chuenpee near Tigris. The British forces then captured the Bocca Tigris which guarded the mouth of the Pearl River. |
