Summary[edit]

Description
English: The image shows an elderly man with Hispanic features, sitting in front of the window of his bahareque house, a type of traditional construction in Venezuela made of mud and other natural materials. The soft daylight enters through the window, illuminating the makeshift workspace where the man, with a calm and focused expression, dedicates himself to sewing the upholstery of his car. The sewing machine, an old Singer model, stands out in the foreground, with its classic design and handwheel that has been adapted with a washing machine motor under the table. The upholstery that the man is repairing shows signs of wear but also care, symbolizing effort and dedication in times of scarcity. In the background, the bahareque walls, with their earthy texture and marks of the passage of time, speak of the resilience of the structures and the people who inhabit them. This photograph, taken a decade ago, is a testament to hope and human tenacity at a time when self-management became an everyday response to economic adversity. More than a simple capture of a moment in an individual's life, it reflects the shared history of a community that, even in difficult times, clings to the hope for better days.
