Wikidata item for China (country)[edit]

{{Editprotected}} This module uses Wikidata item d:Q29520 instead of d:Q148, which is incorrect and misleading. Kindly fix this.--Praveen:talk 19:40, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with China[edit]

User:Soumya-8974 insists on this edit but there's one huge problem with it – template {{Countries of Asia}} does not show China any more, except in the cases when there's "People's Republic of China" in title. Considering there are thousands of categories with "China" and very few with full official name, I'm strongly against Soumya-8974's changes as well as against making hundreds or thousands of duplicates. I kindly suggest to Soumya to propose changes here on talk, instead of making arbitrary changes which are creating serious issues. --Orijentolog (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, our use of "China" is not standardized throughout Commons. It is used to mean the group of Chinese-speaking states and territories of East Asia in main categories, while in others it is used to mean the People's Republic of China only. We should focus on the standardization of where to treat "China" as a country and where to treat "China" as a group of countries. So I agree to stop my disruption and focus on the remedies. --Soumya-8974 (he) (talkcontribs) 04:33, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
After a long period of thinking, I came to a conclusion of status quo ante. However, I will still make some change in the module, which is to make it work with PRC categories. Soumya-8974 (he) (talkcontribs) 07:25, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, turns out the status quo still cause problems. So the only ultimate solution would be to use the term "China" to mean the Imperial China till 1912 CE, the Republic of China from 1912 to 1949 and the People's Republic of China since 1949, like how English Wikipedia does with the China article.
