English: The house located at 3249 N Street NW in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was built in 1820 and is a contributing property to the Georgetown Historic District. It was the home of Prussian immigrant and chief clerk of the US Coast and Geodetic Survey, Samuel Hein. During the Civil War Hein would fly the US flag from one of the windows, angering neighbors that were Confederate sympathizers, and ran a soup kitchen for Union troops in his back yard.
