Edwards Air Force Base was the first USAF base to receive the Ling-Temco-Vought YA-7D Corsair II. Air Force Systems Command received the first YA-7D in March 1968 for Flight Testing (FT). The first aircraft, YA-7D-1-CV s/n 67-14582 was flown on April 6th.

The pre-production Y-A7Ds and some early production models remained at Edwards AFB for testing of various aircraft modifications made during the operational lifetime of the A-7D. Once tested and approved, these modifications were then made to operational aircraft worldwide.

This testing continued until the aircraft was phased out and retired from the Air National Guard inventory in 1992.
