English: Alabaster is a name given to both a variety of gypsum, and a variety of calcite. gypsum alabaster is softer. Calcite alabaster is harder, but workable with a knife, and often has bands. it is dissolvable by hydrocholoric acid, while gypsum alabster is not. Both tend to be light colored or white, hence the terms use as a color indicator, esp. describing alabaster (translucent, pale white) skin. this category holds files related to both kinds, esp. when the actual variety associated with a given file is not known.
