English: American four-ball billiards is an extinct billiards game closely related to English billiards and cowboy pool. Originally played on a table with six pockets, by 1863 competitions favored four pockets. A decade later, it was played on carom tables. It was the most popular billiards game in the United States until the 1870s when straight rail overtook it.
