The Americus Pharmacy opened in March 1950 by Sidney and Martin Shabrinsky (Shabrin) at 601-603 Hamilton Street, diagonal from the Americus Hotel from which the buisness took its name. Along with a pharmacy, the business sold a large variety of various items along with cosmetics and toiletries.

In late 1954, the business lost its lease on Hamilton street, but was able to relocate in the west end of Allentown at 722 North 19th Street. The business has operated from its 19th street location for the past 66 years. The original owner retired in 1990, and the business is now in other hands under the same name.
