- The entire lake basin lies in impermeable Raibl layers, which have led to the formation of water accumulation.
- The lower (eastern) lake (2207 m above sea level) lies in a boulder-car and has stony shores. It is 160 meters long, 100 meters wide and 2 to 3 meters deep.
- The upper (western) lake (2335 m above sea level) lies in green alpine pastures and is a bit marshy in places, with cottongrass on the shore. It is actually two lakes connected by a small stream. Both are only 2 to 3 m deep.
- They are named after the alp that fills a wide ground.
- The area of the lake area is about 40,000 m².
