Normally, a legacy streetcar runs from near Science World to Granville Island, a scenic region of cafes, boutiques and boathouses. During the Olympics two modern light rail vehicles were made available, and run on this route. A siding, mid-way on the route allowed the two vehicles to cross, providing service every four minutes. Vancouver transit currently makes extensive use of electric trolley buses, and has three modern high-speed, high capacity light rail lines (sometimes confused with heavy rail), but does not operate any streetcars or conventional light rail routes. Initially the not yet built Evergreen Line was to be a more conventional light rail route, but it now seems it too will be a high-speed, high-capacity line. The brief loan of these vehicles from a European city was seen as providing Vancouver commuters an opportunity to try conventional modern light rail.
