On the site of a former temple of Dionysos a church has been built. One reaches it from the Cardo Maximus passing a gateway (or propylaeum, that is all that remains of the temple) next to the Nymphaeum. After climbing stairs from later date one is confronted bt the eastern outer wall of the church (the apsidial side), to get in one has to first walk along its side through a north or south narthex. A shrine dedicated to Maria and the archangels Gabriel and Michael is all one sees at the eastern outer wall. More to the west than the Cathdral one immediately finds another church, that of St. Theodor.
