Charles W. Saunders (1857-1935) was an American architect who practiced in the Pacific Northwest for most of his career. From his arrival in Seattle in 1889 until 1892, he worked with Edwin W. Houghton as Saunders & Houghton. After a brief solo career, he partnered with George W. Lawton in 1901, who had previously worked under him as a draftsman, as Saunders & Lawton and for the next 15 years they were one of the leading architectural practices in the city. Saunders retired from architecture in the late 1910s and turned his energies to politics and most important to him, environmental protection. He passed away in Seattle in 1935.
