English: The City of Benares was an iron-hulled, full-rigged ship built in 1882 by Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow for George Smith & Sons, Glasgow. Dimensions 259.0' × 38.2' × 23.0' and 1,652 GRT, 1,574 NRT, 1,525 tons under deck and 2,400 DWT. 1900 sold to Gabriel Rivell and partners, Nystad (Uusikaupunki), Finland. 1911 wrecked at Westkapelle, Walcheren, on voyage from Queenstown to Sundsvall. Of 21 crew, 10 were rescued and 11 were lost.[1][2]
