Basic arms & blazon

[edit]

The "Roses of Guelders" originate from the Wichard Saga. Leopold and Wichard, the sons of Sir Otto, heard there was a dragon which was ravaging the local area. They hunted the dragon and found it under an old medlar bush. The dragon roared at them: “Gelre, Gelre,” and was slain by Wichard. At that place the brothers founded a stronghold which they called “Gelre”. Leopold died childless and was succeeded by his younger brother Wichard, who married Lady Margaret of Hameland. Wichard took as his coat of arms three "Roses of Guelders" to commemorate the event. (Source: www.holandiabeztajemnic.pl[1])
