English: The en:Coconino Sandstone in various states of the Southwest USA, and the en:Grand Canyon of Arizona. Fossils, footprints, and trackways are found in the sandstone.
Arizona–Upper layers are interbedded from the edge of the continent, intruded by ocean (marine) formations, (from the west), en:Kaibab Limestone above (younger), and Toroweap Formation (also above below Kaibab (therefore older)). The Grand Canyon has these layers; in eastern Arizona, the layers are nonexistent, or buried.
Because the Coconino Sandstone is a cliff-former, and resistant, many Grand Canyon prominences, in-whole, or are partially composed of the Coconino.
