The Coloured people mostly speak Afrikaans and inhabit the west coast of the Republic of South Africa as well as many inland small communities. They originate in Southeast-Asian and European settlers who mixed with the local black African population in the Exploration Era. As late as the 2000s, they are generally ranking among the groups with the lowest social, educational and economic mobility of the racial groups that compose the country's human mosaic and suffer exclusion from several circles by the other groups.
