English: The stone tower was formerly the pedestal for a steam crane constructed in 1891. The crane was demolished in 1969, and the base repurposed as a focal point for the amphitheatre in front of the Lloyds building. The weather vane and upper tower were salvaged from a building undergoing demolition in the city and added at a later date.
