De Dion-Bouton Type L was a model in the make's single cylinder Vis-à-vis series. It carried the latest improvements as introduced in the Type G 4½ HP, but got a larger engine with 90 mm bore × 110 mm stroke, which gives a displacement of 700 cc. Power is 6 h.p., which was also the vehicle's French tax rating. The same engine was used in some models of the successor series, Populaire.

The later Vis-à-vis models, Type E (3½ HP), G (4½ HP), and L (6 HP), are distinguished from their precedessor, Type D, by a new gear shift lever protruding from the floor, and rear wheel drum brakes. Although the Type L was a regular production model, 6 CV engines were mainly used for the closed cab model.

Type L was introduced in May, 1902 and was built until 1903, when Vis-à-vis production ended.
