The Type 145 is a racing car created to try to win the "million challenge" in 1937 : it was a question of beating, on the circuit of Montlhéry, the record of speed over 200 kilometers then held by an Italian automobile, the winner earning a million francs. René Dreyfus, for the "Écurie Bleue" own Grand Prix team of Lucy Schell allied to Delahaye, won the challenge with 146.508 Km/h. Lucy Schell then sponsored three other examples for the engaged during the 1938 racing season. The entirely new engine, developed by engineer Jean François, was a 12-cylinder 60° V-shaped engine with a capacity of 4.5 liters and developing 240 hp with a magnesium block and a steel cylinder head. aluminum.
