The Star Bakery in Allentown was started in 1911 at 730 Gordon Street. It moved to 608 Front Street about 1937. Steven and Mary Zdrofcoff opened the Egypt Bakery in Egypt PA in 1931. Unfortunatley, it burned down in November 1940. At the time of the fire, the Star Bakery in Allentown was for sale. The Zdrocoffs were born in Eastern Europe, Steven in Bulgaria and Mary in Hungary. Steven immigrated to the United States in 1922 and first lived in Hellertown. He owned a bakery there from 1926 to 1931, and later in Mount Carmel until 1944 when he moved to Allentown. They met each other in Bethlehem. Steven passed in October 1949 and Mary in November 1997.

From its origional location on Front Street, the bakery added branches in both Coplay in 1964 and along MacArthur road in Whitehall in 1973. It produces a wide variety of bread and baked goods, all baked on Front Street. The bakery is now owned by Esther Erdossy and Steve Zdrofcoff, using the same coal-fired oven that has been there since the 1940s.
