English: This map design was created by Martin Waldseemüller around 1513, after the example of the Insularium Illustratum’s world map of 1495 by Henricus Martellus. Unlike Martellus, Waldseemüller included the newly discovered coastlines of the Caribbean and Brazil in the map. The design was afterwards copied and reprinted throughout the 16th century.
