English: In Sekondi (hist. Sacondee or similarly) existed since the 1680s two forts: a British fort and a Dutch fort, the later was called "Fort Orange". The British fort was destroyed during the American Independance War (1779-1784) by the French and was not rebuilt. Fort Orange was exchanged for Fort Vredenstein in Kommendah in 1785 and remained under British control until to the great fort exchange in 1868 when the fort returned to Dutch possession. From 1872, it became British again.
