Deutsch: Das Denkmal befindet sich auf dem Gelände des deutschen Pavillons für die Weltausstellung von 1904. Friedrich Ludwig Jahn war der Vater der deutschen Turnbewegung. Die Büste wird im Allgemeinen als unproportioniert zu den dazugehörigen Statuen angesehen. Das Denkmal wurde vom nordamerikanischen Turnverein, St. Louis Chapter, gestiftet und im Oktober 1913 enthüllt.
English: The monument is place on the site occupied by the German pavilion during the 1904 World's Fair. Friedrich Ludwig Jahn was the father of systematic physical culture and founder of the Turnvereins. The bust is generally considered out of proportion with the accompanying statues. The monument was donated by the North American Turnverein, St. Louis Chapter and was unveiled in October of 1913.
The German Forty-Eighters exiles brought the Turnvereine movement to the U.S. from 1848 onwards, building Turner Halls across the country, which provided athletic, cultural, and political support to German immigrants.
