English: G-MKIA is a Supermarine Spitfire Mark Ia, serial number P9374, built in March 1940. In 1940, it was shot down on 24 May 1940 and crash-landed on a beach near Calais, France. The pilot, Peter Cazenove, survived and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner. The aircraft was quickly covered by sand and remained buried until it was revealed by shifting sand in the late 1970's. It was recovered in 1980 and subsequently restored to flying condition.
