George Herbert Day was the general manager of the Pope Manufacturing Company, the Electric Vehicle Company of Hartford (the first American motor vehicle concern, and largest automobile manufacturer in the U.S.A.), and the Columbia Automobile Company. As the general manager of the Association of Licensed Automobile Manufacturers he became one of the architects of the first American automobile industry organization and fought Henry Ford in the bitter Selden patent legal suits.
