E. B. Horne & Co. of London N7 was a commercial vehicle dealership representing the American Garford truck. The company also reconditioned surplus World War I lorries, and made adaptions to customer's choice. These vehicles were sold either under the original manufcturer's name or under the Gilford brand. When it became difficult to get army lorries for these conversions, the company began assembling Garford trucks, and manufactured its own line of lorries and especially buses, still using the Gilford name. Bus production started in 1925. In 1927, the company moved to High Wycombe, changed the name to Gilford Motor Co. Ltd., and formed Wycombe Motor Bodies as its coachbuilding subsidiary in 1928. Gilford also manufactured gas producers, and experimented with oil engined lorries. The company was acquired in 1937 by the Sentinel Waggon Works and seized production shortly after.
