English: Gilmore and Kirkman Building, Seattle, known at various times as Denny-Coryell Company Building, Arlington Hotel, Bay Building, and Gilmore and Kirkman's Block. Built and co-owned by Seattle realtor George T. Gilmore and Walla Walla capitalist William Kirkman (builder of the National Register-listed Kirkman House there, now a museum). Designed by Elmer H. Fisher, construction began before the Great fire and wasn't completed for some time after. The building also served as Seattle's main post office roughly from its construction until about 1904. Despite public outcry and attempts to save it, the building (and the other two historic buildings on the block) was demolished in late 1974 by Stimson Bullitt's Cornerstone Development Corp., who cited prohibitive costs to restore it. After remaining vacant for most of the decade the site was eventually developed for the Harbor Steps project.
