Earlier in Toronto's history grain was transshipped through the port, and that grain was stored in silos while awaiting a vessel to transport it. Grain is no longer shipped through the port. But several silos remain. A silo near Spadina has been repurposed as a theatre. A silo on the Parliament slip was home to squatters for almost forty years. Its future is unclear.
