The White-throated needletail (Hirundapus caudacutus), is swift that breeds in northeast Asia and 'winters' in Australia's summer, eating, drinking and sleeping on the wing. Flocks of dozens or hundreds of birds appear suddenly overhead in 7th Brigade Park, Chermside, and just as suddenly vanish. The birds flight is rapid and powerful.
