Category:Hofbrau Haus, Allentown, Pennsylvania
A German-themed restaurant and bar, opened by Joseph Himmler in October 1933 at 1027 Hamilton Street. Himmler was an Austrian immigrant who arrived in Allentown in 1923. In 1941 he sold the business to Joseph Nikitsher and his wife. The Nikitshers were killed in a car/train accident in April 1945, and a half-interest in the business was purchased by Frank and Mrs. "Patsy" Viglione. The Viglione's sold their interest in the business about 1960 and the Nikitsher family retained full-ownership after that with several generations owning and operating the restaurant successfully for decades.
In late 1977 the Nikitshers sold their interest in the business and the restaurant was reopened as Gilly's Family Restraunt in April 1978.
