In 1749, a temporary fireworks pavilion was commissioned for the Hofvijver in The Hague by the States General of the Netherlands, the States of Holland and West Friesland, and William IV, Prince of Orange, to commemorate the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle of 1748.
