Category:Holy Redeemer Catholic Church – Sisters of Notre Dame Convent
Built in 1894 and renovated in 1923, this Queen Anne-style building at 129 West Gorham Street in Madison, Wisconsin, was constructed as a convent for the Sisters of Notre Dame who staffed the Parochial School of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (see the Property Record online).
The building is clad in buff brick with a double front gable and hipped roof, one-over-one windows, stone lintels and sills, a front entry door with a decorative awning with wooden brackets, an arched ceiling, sunburst motif trim panel, and concrete stoop, a front gable dormer clad in wooden shingles, a two-story rear ell with an open porch below featuring a brick column, and a rusticated stone base.
The building is a contributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
