English: Harness racing horses are required to maintain the correct gait (trot or pace) throughout the entire heat. Breaking out in canter, gallop, or the incorrect gait (pace or trot, respectively), will result in disqualification unless corrected soon enough. Additionally, the driver/rider must hold the horse back to make sure it gains no advantage. Breaking out in walk results in a disqualification. Pacers break gait rarely due to the use of pacing hobbles.
