Hringvegur is the National Road No.1 which contours the mainland of w:Iceland and has a length of about 1.600 km.

The partitioning of the Hringvegur here follows more or less the old fjórðungs, i.e. partitioning of Iceland in four parts, west (from w:Reykjavík to w:Hrútafjörður), north (from Hrútafjörður to w:Jökulsá á Fjöllum), east (from Jökulsá á Fjöllum to w:Lómagnúpur) and south (from there to Reykjavík).
