Ice Cream World was started by James (Jim) Schmoyer) in 1973. In March 1977, the Dorneyville Carvel franchise at 3051 Hamilton Boulevard closed and was purchased by Schmoyer. Schmoyer renamed the business as Ice Cream World and moved his original business there.

Schmoyer subsequently purchased the Flagg's Drive-In at 3512 Hamilton Boulevard in June 1977, and operated both businesses. Flaggs was closed in 1978. Schmoyer then leased the former Flaggs to Edward L. Sherry, who operated it as "Geraldine's Restaurant" for a brief period between September 1978 and September 1979. Ice Cream World then moved into the former drive-in restaurant in November 1978

In 2008 Schmoyer retired and the business was passed to the Schmoyer's daughter Kim MacIver. Today she still owns and operates the business.
