The Iconographia Zoologica is a unique collection of images of animals on over 26.500 pages, mostly taken from books. The Iconographia Zoologica consists of four older collections of drawings and prints, combined and arranged in 1881-1883. These collections were formed by the Utrecht professor Th.G. van Lidth de Jeude (1788-1863), the zoologist R.T. Maitland (1823-1904), the curator of the shell collection of the Amsterdam Zoo Abraham Oltmans (1811-1873) and the Amsterdam society Natura Artis Magistra.
