István Szirmai, (April 13, 1906–September 29, 1969), was a Hungarian communist politician born in Transsylvania, member of the illegal communist parties in Romania and in Hungary. After the crushing of the 1956 revolution he was a member of the Polibüro of the Socialist Workers' Party, leader of the Department for Agitation and Propaganda, repsonsible for the centralized control of press and media.
