English: Jaap Kruithof ( Berchem, December 13, 1929 - Boechout, February 25, 2009) was a Belgian philosopher and writer. His parents were Dutch Protestants. Since the 1960s he was, along with Etienne Vermeersch and Leo Apostel, one of the icons of the Ghent University and the Flemish intelligentsia in general. Kruithof was also a musician (organist) and taught sociology at the Royal Music Conservatory in Antwerp.
Nederlands: Jakob (Jaap) Kruithof (Berchem, 13 december 1929 - Boechout, 25 februari 2009) was een Vlaams vrijzinnig filosoof, publicist en opiniemaker. Sinds de jaren '60 gold hij (naast Etienne Vermeersch en Leo Apostel) als een van de linkse iconen van de Gentse Universiteit. Kruithof was ook organist en doceerde muzieksociologie aan het Koninklijk Vlaams Conservatorium in Antwerpen.
