As a British East India Company's army doctor, John Murray took photographs in India, beginning in the late 1840s/early 1850s.
- From 1854 until 1858, he was the first principal of Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra.
- There's a Murray Collection: Views in Delhi, Cawnpore, Allahabad and Benares. (British Library)
- A series of photographs was published in a volume with accompanying captions by J. Middleton (publisher: J. Hogarth, 5 Haymarket, pre-1867). (title unknown, maybe identical with the Murray Collection?)
