The Ramgarh hills of Chhatisgarh in Sarguja district has one of many memorial sites in India for Kalidasa – the celebrated Hindu poet. Other major memorials for Kalidasa are found in Ramtek Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Karnataka.
Local oral tradition states that the ancient Sanskrit poet Kalidasa composed Meghadūta here in the Ramgarh hills of Chhattisgarh.
